Catastrophe

Phil returned home very early from his trail bike ride today...'cos he'd had an accident and has a fractured right 1st metacarpal..base of the thumb.

He has 10 days until he's due to fly out for a trip to Alaska...he's off to see a surgeon tomorrow for an opinion..maybe for an ORIF (open reduction/internal fixation). I guess whether he still goes OS on the planned day depends on when/if the op will take place. If it were me (but its not!), I'd delay...I've seen too many post op complications to be happy for him to be going to America, land of expensive health care.

BUT...as I said..it's not me.....

my worry encapsulated and those of us working in health care know how easy it is for things to go wrong

Oh no :-( Fingers crossed that the break/fracture isn't too serious, so surgery isn't required.

surgery done and dusted yesterday..a 5 hole titanium plate was inserted and the surgeon is very positive he'll be able to ride his trail bike by 29/7!
